Jean Keller Fair
October 23, 1912 - June 02, 2012
On June 2, 2012, Jean Keller Fair died peacefully in the presence of her family. She would have been 100 years old in October, 2012. She is survived by her children, Sally Keller, Georgianna Valentino John IV, Charles Hubert Keller, Cheri and Alice Keller. Her grandchildren are Lysa Heslov Grant, George Keller Hagood, Ben Burke Wall, Jr. Kenlea, Allison Wall, Charles Hubert Keller, Jr. Vicki, Miranda Keller Johansson, David Valentino, Alden Patel Neil, John G. Valentino, IV Christie. She was predeceased by her grandson, George Adam Keller. She leaves numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was born in Waterloo, Iowa. Her father was a professor at the University of Michigan and was Superintendent of Public Education for the State of Mississippi. Her family settled in Savannah in the 1920's. She met her husband and the father of her four children. Hubert Keller, and married him in 1938. They owned Hopeton Plantation as well as another farm. They farmed the land and raised produce and cattle. When her husband died in 1960, she continued farming with her son which continued until her death.
Her interests were varied. She was an excellent hostess, cook and seamstress. She was active in her community and was one of the founders of the Bethel Burton Community. She was a faithful member of St. John's Church and served as President of the Altar Guild. She was a voracious reader averaging a book a day. She enjoyed the daily crossword and playing bridge.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at St. John's Episcopal Church at 11:30. Interment will be at the Woodstock Cemetery located in Hopeton Plantation at 2:30 p.m.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers who were so loving and caring in her home, as well as her physicians and nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be sent to SAFE Shelter, P.O. Box 61119, Savannah, GA 31420 or the Savannah Humane Society, 7215 Sallie Mood Drive, Savannah, GA 31406 in gratitude for her beloved cat, Goldilocks.
So sorry to learn of Ms Fair's passing! I fist met Ms Keller-Fair in 1952 with my mother and father. We continued to visit and hunt deer. Great Times and FOND MEMORIES!
